At Virion Therapeutics, We Believe a Future Free of Cancer and Chronic Infectious Diseases Is Within Reach
The Problem: T cells are our “soldiers of immunity”, responsible for attacking and destroying cells containing an infection or cancer. However, when fighting a long-term battle (i.e., chronic condition) like an infectious disease or cancer, the T cell “army” can become exhausted, limiting their ability to “fight back”.
Virion’s Solution: To restore a patient’s own immune response against a chronic infection or cancer by expanding the T cell “army”.
We are Not Just a Science Experiment: Virion’s lead program focuses on Chronic Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), which affects close to 257 million persons worldwide, and causes an estimated 1 million deaths/year from liver complications. According to HC Wainright, Chronic HBV is considered to be “one of the largest untapped markets in biotech” with an estimated market that could be greater than $450 billion.
In an ongoing clinical trial in chronically infected patients, we have demonstrated that a single dose (an injection in the arm, like a flu shot) of VRON-0200:
- Was able to restore broad HBV immune responses
- And when given in combination with potent antiviral agents, was able to rapidly and profoundly decrease the virus in the blood within 1 week - these types of responses have never been seen before with other combinations
More to Come From our Pipeline: VRON-0300, for cancer, is also in development with pre-clinical studies showing highly promising results. We also are planning additional activities for our VRON-0200 – so stay tuned for updates on our progress!
